(AP)— See-ond*ranked North Carolina State had trouble with East Carolina the first half but pulled away with a wild second half flurry to defeat the Pirates 79-47 Wednesday night in the season opener.David Thompson led the way with 28 points. Towering Tommy Burleson and Morris Rivers contributed 14 each, with Burleson also getting 13 rebounds.A crowd of 11,700 watched in Reynolds Coliseum as East Carolina grabbed a six point lead in the first half 17-11. The Wolfpack raced back and wasout front 38-31 at the half.Rivers sparked the second half rally with 10 points and six steals. The Wolfpack made numerous steals in the last half as it outscored the Pirates 41-16.*Reggie Lee topped the scoring for the Pirates with 14 points.
