ESSTift(Continued from Pago One.)Ifear it mightplay with an entirely new set. Whether they used their old signals or new,I do not know, but I do know thatnone of the signals, plays or formations were divulged by me, either to the Canton players or anyone else.As to whether Mr. Wightnuin was 1 acting in good faith when be made j his original proposition or was simply acting for the Massillon management in feeling out his team. I leave under all tin circumstances of the case foi j the public to judge.Mr. Wightmau and the Massillon management, if their story is to be i beliet* d kuew of the deal on the day of my release, November 10, 1906,six days before the first Canton Massillon game, and 14 days before the second game, ^nd yet failed to give the public the facts, presumably forhurt their gate receipts These same people, however, '•after they had played their last local gamend could lose nothing thereby,} gave their alleged facts to the publicuv sufficient time, 1 am informed, to; ruin the attendance at the Canton-Latrobe game at Canton on Thanksgiving day and thus did irreparable i injury to the Canton football association, and to Mr. Wallace, whose onlyconnection with the matter, if at all, I must have been through dealings- with , Wightman and his Massillon associ-l ates. mj ANOTHER DENIALJ As to the charge that 1 framed’a deal, whereby Western I’niversity 'of Penn ylvacia lost to State college I last year, by a sew of 6 to o, there is absolutely no 'truth in the same,A reference to the Vittsburg papers of the day following describing the i game, amply refutes this charge. The charge which more directly concerns the people of Akron and the ilties of the i). p league, is the one to the effect that Akron finished second plae« instead of first plalt; e, because there was more money in it for me. This is absolutely and unqualifiedly false. Realising the effect thatsuch a stan ment remaining, unrefutedwould have nplt;ui the baseball public, which st) enthusiastically supportedI Akron and the other baseball teamsI in the O. P. league last season, Ishall request that a most thorough and searching investigation of this’ matter be made by tht proper offit ialsof the O. A- P. league. tr by disinterested parties, and that their findings may be published.Accompanying this statement isan exact copy, drawn in triplicate,of th* agreement suggested by Mr.Wightman, and drafted by his attorney. It should in* stated this agreement was framed and worded exactlyas desired tty Mr. Wfeitman after he had personally proposed that. Mr. Windsor should give him the sum ofj$4ou0 without guarantee ,,n his part I to keep hia contract, to throw *teIIgames as. he. had proposed, and had been refused by Mr. Windsor. Itshould also be understood that this was drawn up at a second conference suggested ar.d asked for by Mr. Wiightman, after Mr. Windsor had supposed that the matter was concluded by his refusal to accede to the terms proposed by Mr. Wightman at the joint conference. Both these conferences were asked for by Mr. Wightman.1 may further say that at the time Mr Wightman released the on the morning after the signing of the contract, he demanded that, I immediately see Mr. Windsor and get himto return all of ttte copies of theagreement which Mr. Windsor had containing his lt;Wightman’s) name. This Mr. Windsor refused to do.Knowing that neither Mr. Wightman nor myself have any justification for our actions in the football matter, but being willing to bear my share of the blame, without attempting to screen myself, by besmirchingthe reputations of innocent parties, Iam submitting all the facts to the public for their consideration.(Signed) WALTER R EAST.iiiTHE AGREEMENT.Memorandum of agreement, entered into this 9th day of ’ No \ tun be r. 1906, at Cleveland, 0, by and between W.
