J ournal HitsStreetsPHILADELPHIA (AP) -The Philadelphia Journal, with 64 pages of news, sports and a pretty girl on page seven, becomes the city’s fourth major newspaper Monday with an initial press run of between 170,-000 and 180,000 copies.The morning tabloid, one of the first metropolitan papers started in the United States in the last 25 years, will hit the streets at 5 a m.“I wouldn't call it a miracle, out it sure is a collective effort,” said Jacques Beauchamp, editor and general manager of Montreal publisher Pierre Peladeau’s new enterprise.Beauchamp, formerly with Peladeau’s Montreal tabloid and a sports writer for 36 years, will write a daily column in the Journal. “I’ll write it in French, then someone will translate“I never won a prize as a French writer, but if the translator is good, I might win a prize in English, he saidA spare goalie with the Montreal Canadiens for 10 years, Beauchamp, 50, will take a George Plimpton-like approach to his first column.“I heard the Phillies’ Rich Hebner is a pretty fair hockey player, Beauchamp said in a telephone interview Sunday as workman hammered up walls and hung doors at the Journal’s new offices.“If he’s interested, I’m ready to put pads on and challenge Hebner to 10 shots before a Flyers’ game. I'rn ready to bet I can stop seven out of 10, Beachamp said.The Journal w ill run about 30 pages of sports in its first edition.
