New paper opens in PhiladelphiaPHILADELPHIA {AP) — The Philadelphia Journal, with 64 pages of aews and sports and a pretty girl on page 7, becomes the city's fourth major newspaper today with an initial press run of between 170,000 and 130,000 copies.The morning tabloid, one of the few metropolitan papers started in the United States in the last 23 yean, hit the streets at 5 a.m.“I wouldn't call it a miracle, but It sure Is a collective effort/' said Jacques Beauchamp, editor and general manager of Montreal publisher Pierre Pelwkau’a newenterprise. tBeauchamp, formerly with Peiadeau's Montreal tabloid and a sports writer for 36 years, will write a daily column in the Journal, I'll write it in French, then someone will translate.1 never won a prize as a French writer, but if the translator is good, I might win a prire la English,” he said.The Joum*I will run about SO pages of sports in its first edition.
