When the new Republican Board of County Commissioners assumes officeJan. 1, one of the first things that will be placed before the members will bethe question of the presentation of the old fair grounds property to the city tobe used as a public playground.Ever since Thanksgiving, when more than seven thousand people were jammed into the baseball park to witness the Turkey Day football game between Garfield and Wiley High*Schools, there has been a good deal of talk among public-spirited citizens to the effect that the city should have a large athletic field. And invariably, when these discussions have come up, the subject has been predicated on the taking over of the fair grounds and its conversioninto a great city park and playground, a part of which would be a largestadium, such as Evansville has.The city park board has never said much about it—for the very good reason that there was nothing definite for it to go by—nevertheless it is stated by members of the park commission that they will get squarely behind the erection of a stadium and athletic field in case the county commissioners shoulddeed the fair grounds property to thecity.Posey Has Advertising Plan.Wood Posey of the park board is highly interested in the fair groundspark scheme. In addition to seeing in it one of the city’s finest and mostliberally patronized playgrounds, Mr. Posey would have it serve the purposeof placing Terre Haute conspicuously before the eyes of people from allparts of the country through the setting off of a considerable space in the park to be used by automobile touristspassing through the city.“Hergreat p“eachsandsyear, ing platouristi cars fcaA pvery bhave.cities c try, anhe is o At themany i of his ably, wprovisiand cotreated is a wcity.“No\ Posey, have a mediui the ole causeAMen aiing the put Tecity toimmedplace 1that wa beat have t This i boardi Moreplace : posal, car anparts
