SPORT AND PLAY.Football.Though General Baden-Powell' declined the invitation to* referee inA the Tottenham Hotspur v. Army match played yesterday at Tottenham in aid of the funds of the local Drill Hall, the attendance numbered nearly 3,000, the match fortunately being favoured with fine weather. From the start the professionals showed considerably the better football, doing most of the pressing, but owing to the excellent defence, and in some degree to their own poor shooting, they were not able to beat their opponents by more than two goals to one.The Wolverhampton Wanderers paid a visit to Bursiem yesterday for thepurpose of replaying their semi-final tie in the Birmingham Cup with the PortVale. The visitors managed to win by two goals to nil, and qualified for thefinal tie, in which they have to oppose Aston Villa on a ground yet to be nominated.Northampton were able to defeat Kettering yesterday at Northampton by two goals to one in a replay in the qualifying competition for the Football Cup.An excellent game between Queen’s Park Rangers and Millwall, on the former’s ground, ended in a pointless draw yesterday.The Bristol Rovers were beaten yesterday by the margin of thre« goals to nil by West Ham. The match was played at Canning Town.The Oxford University Rugby team concluded their home engagements for the term yesterday, when they were opposed by the Edinburgh Wanderers. Fine weather prevailed, and a capital game resulted. The University were successful by twenty-two points to nil. . . :
