Gary Gibson led the scoreres with10 points, while Jimmy Thames had 8. Thames was the standout on defense, blocking seven shots and grabbing 15 rebounds.In the eye opener, the Gre-gory-Portland Junior Varsity walloped the Pirate Junior Varsity, 43-18. On offense William Juranek and Elias Casas eachhad four points. Juranek also grabbed right rebounds, while Mike Psencik was snatching seven.The Pirates’ shooting eye appeared a bit weak in their debut as they hit a frigid 12 for 66 from the floor, and five for 23 from the free throwline. However, the Pirates lostthe ball only seven times on offensive violations. The Junior Varsity made five of 61 field goal attempts and eight of 27 free throw tries, but surrendered the ball 20 timeson offensive miscues.The Pirates meet Gregory-Portland in a rematch Friday evening in Pirate Gym. In addition, Benavides will visit Pirate Gym on Tuesday, December 6, for a pair of games. Game times will be 6 00 and7:30 P.M. each night.
