After getting off to a poor start with an early season 18-6 lopF to Bluefleld’s Beavers, the Coal-diggers got going and did not drop another game during the season.The Coaldiggers, by scoring in •very game played, exhibited a powerful offense as well as a good defense. The chief offensive gun was little Jack Sullivan, who ran the tram with unusually good judgment, and who did most of the ball carrying. passing and all the punting. Jack’n ability to get his punts off fast was a big asset, as he did not have a nunt blocked during the en- i tire season. His left footed drop-! kicks counted for several extra; points.Big Zack Kush, the blond Viking, was the big defensive gun. During tho entire season he played a bang-up game, and in addition to smearing most of the plays directed over him blocked a total of nine punts, as well as every attempt at place kick for extra point except one. Zack w'as ably assisted in his defensive work by Captain John Henry Lawson, who backed up the line and was in practically every play right uo to his neck. Lawson was the spark plub of the team, and his ab-s« nee from the team in the Beaver game was a large reason for Gary’s downfall tl at day.The Gar?' team this season traveled a total of approximately 1.500 miles, making a trip to Georgetown, 111., to win a game 7-6.
