JACK ROXBURGH . . . Iac«* Van ViittroKUNTO KPi - Dr. M. L. Van Vi et, director itf physical educat on at the University of Alberta who criticized a proposal to train an all-star hockey team at the University of Bril-h Columbia to represent Can ada at the 1%4 Olympics, cameunder fire himself today.Jack Roxburgh, past president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, had harsh words for Dr. Van Vliet, who described CAHA backing of the plan proposed by UBC hockey coach. Rev. Dave Bauer, as ' an absolute farce.”Roxburgh said in an interviewJackSmacksBacktoday: ‘‘Dr. Van Vliet does not know what he is talking about. There's no argument about that, either. He said Father Bauer, brother of former National Hockey League star Bobby Bauer, is one of the greatest coaches in Canada.”He intends to start this fall with eight players. He has approached 19 other players, both in Canada and the United States who have forwarded their consent and their individual universities’ consent totransfer their studies to UBC next year. The letter was also sent to( \HA President Art Potter ofEdmonton and Roxburgh.Roxburgh said the CAHA is“very pleased” with the idea. The team will be together for at least one year and there will be no problem of culling out professional players from aproposed side as has been necessary in the past.He said: I understand UBC is building a new rink.Surely Dr. Van Vliet is nottaking into consideration the extra players who will come from universities in Canada andthe United States.”
