Late ModelLars To RaecAt HickoryWHICKORY, Aug 30 — The Increasingly popular late model stock car race comes to the Hickory Speedway, Friday night, Sept. 5, and Promoter Charlie Combs savs many of the nation's top NASCAR drivers will bring their cars here.This 100-mile, 200-lap Grand National Circuit race will offer $4,000 in prize money and points earned here will count toward the national championship of the National Association of Stock Car Automobile Racing for 1952.Several thousand fans came here August 23 and many top drivers were on hand but the race had tobe postponed due to a rain-softenedtrack.Officials are confident of having some of the top name drivers in the business on hand for the local race since nost ot the stars will be in this section after competing in the Southern 500 at Darlington.Local favorite Gwvn Staley of North Wilkesborn may decide to compete in the event. Stalev has a 1952 Ford Police Special readv for his use.Time trials for the event will start at 7 o'clock with the big race shoving off at 8 30.
