His tryout with the Phillies when they were in Chicago about two weeks ago was so impressive that officials of the club signed Bramhall on for the trip without more ado.Bramhall has been playing shortstop with the Madison Blues in theIllinois-Wisconsin League all this summer, and has been batting well over the .300 mark, as well as fielding in phenomenal fashion. His feats caught the eye of a Phillie scout about a month ago.Two weeks ago, when the Phillies were in Chicago, Andy High telegraphed Bramhall to come to Chicago and stay four days at the Palmer House at the expense of the Philadelphia club. However, his tryout lasted only one day, for in that day he showed enough stuff to warrant an invitation to the training trip to Lakeland, Florida, next spring.Art Bramhall first gained athleticprominence as an athlete on the gridiron, basketball court and diamond at Oak Park High. He later played professional basketball with the Chicago Bruins and has'had sq^ral years’ experience in minor league baseball. For about six years he has been among the most prominent of the athletic sons of Oak Park.
