ROSES SCORE 4RUNS IN EIGHTHTIE COUNTDerringer and KallaCards Win TwoClassy Negro Nine Forced to Exert Itself; Visitors Score Twice in Ninth to Win Fast Game.Bert Jones Greeted With Barrage of Hits in Final Two Frames.Bjr WALLACE MORGAN.Though defeated, 6 to 4; Sunday morning at Athletic park, the Winonas showed arevival of their old time fighting spirit of a few years ago during Bert Jones’ local heyday to give a small turnout of fans one of the most interesting games this season. ,Oufchit two to one and facing a 4 to 0 shutout in the eighth inning, the Rosemen rallied to tie the count in their next to last bat and made the free swinging colored players extend themselves to the utmost to win the battle by scoring twice in the ninth,^Bert Jones made his first appearance in a Winonas uniform in more than a month to take over the hurling burden at the first of the eighth after Vondrashek had gone through a barrage of heavy clouting, which with a couple of bad errors, gave the Rosemen an exceptionally active seven innings in tho field.The colored Davids of Cuba” landed on Jones for a quartet of singles during the eighth but were held to one run when Bert fanned one batter and good support in the field accounted for the other two outs.Rose* Rally.Roy Lord, who made a spectacular running, overhead catch deep in centerfleld, led the rally for the Winonas in the eighth; He singled, O’Brien got to first on an error and Prosser’s one-bagger brought them both in.Bert Jones worked the tiring Freeman, colored pitcher, for a walk and Tust singled only to be caught on second base as O'Brien scored when Hargesheimer reached first on a fielder’s choice. Hargesheimer was togged out at second when Andy Wally rolled , one past the pitcher's box, but Jones came in with the tying run on the play.Although the colored players gathered two more tallies in the ninth, the Rosemen put up a fight to the finish. Keikbusch got to first when the third baseman hobbled his grounder and O’Brien walked after Lord had filed out to left field. Prosser hit to third base for. the second out and Jones received a second walk.With the bases loaded and two out Rollie Tust brought the battle to an end in a valiant attempt to drive in his mates, flying out to short center field. It was the. climaxing play in a game which held more tense moments than any which Manager Rose has been able to offer for some time.Darby O’Brien came through with two singles In three times at bat to share honors with Rollie Tiist for the-Winona batsmen.Visitors Get 15 Hits.Jones and Vondrashek werenicked for a total ‘of 15 hits, seven of which were charged against Bert in the two innings he pitched, while the Winonas were able to gather only seven safeties of Freeman.With-all their vigorous hitting the Davids were at no time able to coast, along on the strength of it.
