A BIG FAKEWorst Exhibition of the Pugllis* tic Art Ever Given Here.McConnell winsA Fast Preliminary Bout From Baker of Titusville.Thlt;* boxing contest held In the Aimory last Wednesday night was well attended by about lour hundred. A special train was run from Titusville and eighty-two of the sporting minded came up from the Queen City Social and Athletic club to see the contest. The crowd was a good natured one and waited patiently until after 10 o’clock when the first of the preliminaries was pulled off.The first bout of the evening quite eclipsed the main go and was one of the kind that puts the sports in a good frame of mind to excuse any la key performance that may follow. A six round go was arranged between Baker, of Titusville, and MacConnell of the East Side. It was MacCon-nelTs first appearance in the ring, while Baker lias tried to box here before. ''It will be remembered that Baker is the man who tried to crawl out under the ropes to get away from Benny Murry last winter. Last Wednesday he showed more nerve and put up a stiff battle. The fighting between these men was fast and hard from the beginning and in the first round both men were showing the effects of tho fast pace and were taking all the time they could. Blows were showered on each other and science was thrown to the winds and give and take the method. In the second the fast work continued with Mac having the best of it. The third was the same, but in the fourth the crowd went crazy when MacConnell put Baker down eight times. The last knock down MacConnell slipped and fell, both men being on the floor when the gong sounded. Baker threw up the sponge and the battle was awarded to MacConnell. The main go of the evening was next called and Leonard appeared first and then after much waiting Flynn entered the ring. Leonard was in good condition but Flynn was flabby looking and seemed to be rather under the influence of King Booze. A referee was chosen by acclamation and after some prelimi-lovy^hewirg the bout ws called. About three blows were struck and Ihon Flynn wont down and was counted out. The crowd was a most disappointed one and anlid the cries of “take the main go was oyer after 40 seconds of fighting. The Warren sports were a little afraid of a frost but were nob looking lor such a bum article as they witnessed. That the fight was a fake can hardly be denied as the men are brothers-in-law and all circumstances point in that direction.Flynn was in no condition and his work in . the ring, what there was of it, was :Yory rank.Boxing has always been a favorite sport in this city but contests like that of Wednesday evening will put all future matches for some time in the clear. The local sports felt that the light was fixed and will be unwilling to attend any more matches of a like character.Manager Mahron, of the Queen City Social and Athletic club, in behalf of Kid Gibbs, of Titusville, challenged any 115 pound fighter in Warden. Eddie Dailey, of Baltimore, was present and challenged the winner of the main bout.Rina Side Notes.Worst fake ever held in the city— hat is the verdict of all who abend ed.Its too bad that Flynn had his lead cut; now perhaps some of the veil earned (?) money will have to e given the doctor. No wonder the Titusville people ver© sore.Wonder if the next time they can’t ^ct the money without going in tho ’ing?MacConnell is a comer and will rive many of the local lights a hustle ;or their money. The betting’ was soon stopped.Do people ever throw down their friends?Rumor has It that Frank Erne will ippear here soon.Oh, fes; we will all go again tc see a match like that.
