•dLOST FIRST GAME*Champs Are Downed In Fourteen Inning Contest By Sprudels AtWest Baden Yesterday.LOCALS uET WORST OF DECISIONSIn the mo9t exciting game of the season at West Baden the Sprudels yesterday afternoon defeated the Champs after a prelonged session of fourteen innings, by the score of 5 to 4.The Champs made things so liyely for P/yor who was on the firing line for the colored team, that he was sent to the bench and Miller finished the game in great style aud kept the locals from scoring.Bad umpiring lost the game for the locals, when two runs were scored on an interference which he failed to see. Denny, who was handling the indicator, gave the Champs much the worst of the deal an3 Manager Wicker at the close of the contest demanded an umpire for the remainder of the series who would at least come a little near-giving the visiting team a square deal.Smith pitched great base ball for Bedford, holding the Sprudels down to eight hits for the entire fourteen innings.The winning run was made by Taylor on Brown’s single in the fourteenth inning after two men were out.
