Lindsay vs. Peterboro Shamrocks:i5rdrc1steLL-ttCeteey91aoIIaearehPodA lacrosse match was played on Thursday morning (16th) on the school grounds, between the Shamrocks of Peterboro’ and the Y M. C. A. of this town, resulting in a victory for the homo team by three goals to one. The home team was somewhat weakened by tho absence of Pearson in goal, Montgomery on home, and Becton in centre-field.Tho first garao was started by McPherson for Lindsay, and Begley for the visitors, Begley drew the rubber and carrying it well down the field, made a drop on the flags, but was sen tout again by Finlay sending it well up the field which changed the scene of action, giving Lindsay’s home men some work to do. A spirited attack was made on the Shamrocks’ flags, but the defence played good lacrosse; at last Cornell securing the ball, jxissed it to Hudson who finding a good chance for scoring sent in a well directed over-hand shot between the flags, thus scoring the first game for the Y. M. C. A. team, in seven minutesAfter the usual rest tho second game was called, Begley again drawing the ball, and working it well up the field passed it to a Shamrock man, who shot on tho flags but was stopped by Munroo in goal; who in attcmping to get it away muffed it a couple of times and finally knocked it in front of the flags again, where a Shamrock man was waiting to receive it, he sending it between the poles, thus scoring the second game for Potorboro’ in three minutes. Munroc to make amends for hia poor play this game braced up for the rest of the match, doing good work behind the flags, his long throws being much admired. The third game was started at once and was a stubbornly fought game all through, proving to be tho longest of the match. Aft6r travelling from goal to goal. Mulligan got the rubber after a tussle for it, running well up on homo and finding no chance of scoring passed it to Comeil who sent in a hot shot for tho Shamrock goalkeeper to stop, which he failed to do, thus scoring the third game for Lindsay in sixteen minutes. Time being called the ball was set in motion again, the Shamrocks making a gallant fight for this game. In fact Lindsay defence had to work for all it was worth, but Finlay, Anderson and Comeil were equal to the occasion, Finlay doing grand work, sending the ball down the field again and again. Anderson at cover-point, was sure to stop anything that came in reach. Here the Shamrocks showed some good team play, some very close calls being made on the Lindaav flags. Finlay finally raised the siege, throwing the ball well down the field, where it fell into Comeil’s stick after being closely checked by a Shamrock roan, he, running well in front of the flags, sent in the shot of the match: being a long, swift overhand shot, passing the Peterboro’ defence men in one, two, three, order, and between the goal-keeper’s legs like lightning; in fifteen minutes, ending tho match and giving the Y. M. C. A. the victory by three to one.
