Track coachAkin resignsBY PAT STIEGMAN A-T sports editorDr. Ronald Akin, who has been UW-Oshkosh’s men’s track coach for the past two seasons, resigned that position Athletic Director James Flood announced Aug, 19.Akin, who, according to Flood “asked to be relieved of his coaching duties,” will remain as a full professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at UW-O.“Ron has been an exceptional coach throughout his career at UW-Oshkosh,” Flood said, “His work as ahead men’s track coach speaks for itself. The success of his teams and the individuals is indicative of his abilities. We will miss his dedication, enthusiasm and coaching expertise, but we are confident that he’ll continue to support our team’s track program through his faculty teaching position.”In Akin’s tenure at UW-O, he has helped coach three teams to Wisconsin State University Conference titles as well as coaching 30 athletes to conference titles and 13 athletes to All-American recognition.In addition, Akin coached the first national track champion in UW-O’s history this past season when Max Harnwon the 800-meter run inrecord time in the NCAA Division 3 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.In 1984, Akin was named WSUC Track Coach-of-tfae-year, as the Titans placed eighth in the NCAA Division 3 Outdoor Track and FieWPhnitininnchinc
