Veterans ReturnIndians Have ExperienceBy Lon Eubanks Of The Southern IllinoisanJohnston City finished with a 1-7-2 prep football record last year, but Coach Jack Wales thinks the Indians will be able to improve on that record this season.Wales has five regulars back from last year and seven other lettermen to back up his pre-season optimism.Returning regulars are quarterback Larry Stevens, center Ronnie Reed, guard Tom Ellis and ends Harry Wilson and Chuck Reed.A passing combination of Ste-vens-to-Wilson promises to be a Johnson City offensive strong point, but Wales said he hopes the Indians will be strongest on defense.Wales still is undecided whether he will use Stevens at quarterback or at halfback this season.w ..... ban.Junior Tommy Thomas has had The Johnston City roster:some experience at quarterback and may be used there in a shuffle that would put Stevens at halfback.“Stevens really eame around for us at the end of the season last year,” said Wales, “and he’s probably the fastest man on the team.“I’m expecting a lot from Wilson, too.
