Striders Excel In Byron 10-K Memorial RunA number of local runners from the Queen City Striders delivered excellent performances in the seventh annual Goodloe E. Byron Memorial 10- Kilometer Run held Saturday morning at Williamsport.Jeff Smith finished second overall in the field of 211 runners with a time of 31 minutes. 22 seconds.Tom Langan was second in the men’s 30-39 age group with a time of 33:23 and George Brown was 14th overall in 34:25.Paula Bridges took first place in the women’s 20-29 age group in 41:27 and her sister Lynn was second in 42:23.Bill Smith III was second in the men’s 40-49 division in 38:54.Other Striders competing included Gary Hanna, 37:51; Jim LaRue, 40:46; Dave Hutt, 41:22; Del Proudfoot, 42:03; Mike Laf-fey, 43 41. and Natalie Grant, 44:33John Doub of Waynesboro, Pa., won the championship for the fourth straight year— beating Smith by 13 seconds in 31:09 Jeff Delauter of Hagerstown w as third in 31:36.Winner of the women’s division in 35:53 was Maria Pazarentzos of Hagerstown, who was a track and cross country standout at Eastern Kentucky University.The race, sponsored by the Washington County National Bank to benefit the Williamsport W’ildcat Athletic Boosters Club, was run through the streets of Williamsport and along the CO Canal.
