(CP * — Three national records were set Friday at opening events of the three-day national water skiingchampionship at Leamy Lake, north of Ottawa,The records were broken in junior girls slalom, junior girls trick and veterans jumping.Judy McClintock of Streets-vi'lle. Ont., broke the record forjunior girls slalom by skiing around four buoys a1 34 m.p.h. with 15 feet taken off the tow-line.The old record of four buoys at 34 m.p.h. was set with a 75-foot, full-length tow line. Miss McClintock also placed second in junior girls trick.In the girls’ jumping category, first place went to Pat. Reid of Selkirk, Man. for her 93-foot jump. Quebec skiersMarie Houde and Claire Gre-goire. were second and third.In the slalom event, contestants snake through six buoys, starting at 28 m.p.h. and working up to 34 m.p.h. for women, 3G m.p.h. for men.Ail contestants who successfully complete the course at I lie maximum speed then get their tow lines shortened 15 feet oil each pass.Lisa Sokolowski of Toronto set a new standard for the junior girls trick competition with 2340 points, 300 points over theold record.Miss Sokolowski aisu placedsecond in junior girls trick and won Uie over-all junior girls championship.Rob Bocock of Lac LAehi-gan, Que., with a 115-foot jump, bested the old veterans jumping record by 10 feet. He placed second in veterans slalom and veterans trick and also won the over-all veterans championship.The competition is divided into five age groups—junior, 13and under: girls and boys, 14 tu 17: men and women, 18 to 25: senior 20 to 34 and veterans 30 and up.In junior girls slalom competition Edith St. Hilaire ot Quebec finished third.Claire Gregoire of Hull, Que.. won the girls slalom, followed by Diane Cairns of Don Mills, Ont. and Michelle Knaut of Alberta.The veterans slalom event was won by Dan Wittenberg ofVancouver, with 33.5 buoys. Third place wertt to Rudy Tus* chek of Vancouver.Third place in the junior girls trick event was taken by Marlene Graham of Kitchener, Ont..Junior boys trick competitionwas won by Jeff McClintock olStreetsvMIJe. Ont.Senior mens tricks went to Rick Crimean of Kingston Ont. with 3.050 points, followedby Cam McArthur of Cam bridge. Ont.. and Harold Townsend of Belleville.
