Taylor,Bolander featurewinners•By Bob Longwith Tribune sportswriter Galveston’s Jim Taylor captured the 40-lap, hobby stockfeature and Kokomo’s Swede Bolander won the 20-lap street stock feature in Sunday night’s Late Season Stock Car Championship races at the Kokomo Speedway.Warsaw’s Tony EUiott won his second super sprint feature of the season after charging through the field from his starting spot on the outside of the fourth row.In the hobby stock championship feature, Dewayne May led the first lap, but Jim Taylor grabbed the lead on the second lap and led the rest of the way, Taylor pulled out to a half-lap lead midway through the feature before a pair of yellow flags closed the gap. Taylor stayed away from trouble and held off Peru’s Hank HUmer in a three-lap sprint to the green flag after the last yellow in therace. Sheridan’s Mike McMahon slid by May and Allan Marsh in turn four on the final lap after they collided in a battle for thethirdspot.Marion's Glen Bradley, who has won the most hobby stock features this season, was runningt second urhin he blew a tire after 33 laps.Jim Taylorwere Marsh , and Rick Stone with Taylor capturing the trophy dash.Roiuiie Glassburn, who has the'most street stock wins, led thefirst 13 laps in the 20-lap championship feature but had to drop out of the race when his engine went sour. Bolander, who was running second, inherited the lead and held off Glassburn’s teammate Gene Head and Denny Clelland to capture the race,Glassburn, Scott Colby and Head were heat winners.Randy Woodling started on the pole and led the first two laps of the super sprint feature before Kokomo driver, Jim Lipkey moved into the lead, Bloomington’s Bobby KJnser led for a while as Elliott kept gaining on the leaders. Elliott moved in front near the end and held off Kokomo’s hard-charging Jeff Donelson for the victory.Five laps from the. finish,fSwede’ BolanderTim Bookmiller. But he climaxed his charge on the final turn of the feature by passing Kinser on the high side to earn runner-up honors.Burlington’s Louie Mann won the first heat while Kokomo drivers Lipkey, Bookmiller and Donelson finished second, fifth and sixth.Burlington’s Brad Boyer started on the pole in the second heat, but Elliott, who started in the sixth spot rushed to the front to grab the win with Van Gurley second and Boyer third.Jeff Walker and Kokomo’s Tony Ploughe, who started in the last row, finished i-2 in the third heat.Bob Kinser won the trophy dash with Donelson second and Bookmiller third.
