Karate demonstration at Green Chimneys SchoolA demonstration of the Martial defense without weapons. This Arts, put on by some staff technique originated somewhere members of Green Chimneys in the Far East, perhaps Korea, School, Brewster, N.Y., was Japan, Philiipines, or China. As presented on the school grounds, explained by Frank Rosario in his Saturday evening, August 14, * introduction of the demonstration 1976. Participants included staffmembers Frank Rosario, Nelson Rosario, and Jose Guzman. Also participating were Jimmy Rosario and Mr. Thomas St. Charles from Danbury, Connecticut with three of his students.tThe. demonstration included Karate, a disciplined form of selfeach of these countries has its own style or technique of self-defense. Other examples are Judo, Kung Fu, and some forms which use weapons, such as Kendo. Karate consists mainly of kicks and blows to the body. Judoinvolves grasping the opponent so that his own strength and weight are used against him. Kendo canbe described as a technique similar to fencing, but its weapons are different.Mr. Thomas St. charles, a fifth degree black belt, and his students, demonstrated techniques of Shao Lin Ssu Kung Fu.The students observing were reminded not to attempt to practice any of the techniques they observed as serious injury could occur to themselves or others. All students and staff were most appreciative of his demonstration.
