HOW BAD WE ARE.Independence Press Accuses Dubuque j People of Belng Hoodlums andDrnkardt.The Independence papers almost went wild over the victory of that city at Waterloo last Tuesday, The Bulietin-Journal delivered itself of more than a column of a tirade cf abuse, taking in everything and everyone The following, referring to the ball team alone, is a fair sample of the article, of its utter lack of foundation, and of the envious spirit that prompted it:On several occasions Manager Frank O'Brien has taken his Independence ball team to Dubuque for the purpose of playing the game on its merits, but on every occasion—save the last—rank decisions from arank umpire and threatening demonstrations from a drunken mob of hoodlums and 5-cent thugs has caused the game to break up in a row, when the Independence team had already won by all honorable and gentlemanly means, and tbey left the grounds to avoid personal assaults.
