Bradley, Davis, Elliott winBy Bob Longwith Tribune sportswriterSunday’s racing at the Kokomo Speedway featured the stock car drivers’ Late Season Championship feature races. Glen Bradley and Jim Davis capturing thespecial events. Warsaw’s Tony Elliott won the super sprint feature race to become the thirdsprint driver to win three featuresSis season at the local quarter mile oval.Marion’s Glen Bradley dominated the 40-lap hobby stock sprint feature race with a steady driving performance in the No. 34 Firebird from the Rick Burns stable. Bradley ted all 40 laps with South Whitley’s Butch Boggs keeping within striking distance. Jim Weir was third, Mike McMahon fourth, Fred Click fifth with Kokomo’s Ron Phillips sixth. Chuck Piker, Jack Oliver, Dick Day and Mark Henson rounded out the top 10. Bradley also won the trophy dash.The win was Bradley’s ninth of the season at Kokomo and fifth ina row.“It’s been turmn| into a goodone here,” an elated Bradley said of this year’s racing season.Four strong contenders — Dalton Gates, Rod England, RickDay and Jim Taylor were out of»iaing traces. Gates grabbed the lead onthe race early. Boggs was fast qualifier at : 18.22 witn Gates and Robert Johnson winning the heatthe sixth lap from Ron Phillips idewith an inside pass in turn four tof*antnra fir*? h*Aiside down. He was going into thesecond turn when he tangled with Roller’s car. Roller’s car cartwheeled and flipped end-over-end before coming to rest in turn two. He was taken to the hospital for observation but Bolander was unhurt.On the restart, Davis was running with a damaged radiator and his car limped across the finish line with a very hot engine.Street stock features were won by Davis, Randy Louks and Bolander.In super sprint competition, the feature race also was red-flagged when Paul Huntington flipped and lost a wheel in turn two after two laps were complete. Huntington climbed out of the car uninjured.Kokomo’s Tom Chalk started on the pole, but Bob Kinser led the first four laps.Elliott, who was driving the No. 57 Steve Ross Chevrolet, EDM-TNT Paul Hazen car, made a high pass on Kinser on the fifth circuit and pulled away to win by more than a straightaway.Lincoln’s Dave Dariand started 10th and finished second in a strong effort. Burlington's Mike Mann was third, Kinser fourth and Kokomo’s Tim Bookmitler fifth. Kokomo drivers Chalk, Kurt Hawkins, Jeff Donelson, Gary Fisher and Scott Fisher finishedeighth thru 12th respectively.
