Bv GEORGEBob McCollum, Kids, Inc. coordinator, issued a special announcement of great interest to the hoys and girls in the Kids, Ir.e. athletic, programs. McCollum reported Tuesday that boys and girls weighing in will NOT be allowed to run off any weight and weigh again if they are slightly over the mark. In ihe past thev have been able to cut down and make the mark, but no more. Registration for football will begin next Monday, Aug. ’19,but football player* may be registered until alamt Sept. 15. Regtatartion for basketball and softball will, of course, be held much later. No player may participate until properly registered. Otherwise, his team will forfeit any games in which he illegally played.McCollum urges former coaches. with past Kids, Inc. experience, to call in or come in soon to select their irams. Coaches will he chosen cm a first come, first served basis, and no coach will be guaranteed a team unless| he appears first and requests acertain team. Girls will play volleyball in leagues while the boys play football.McCollum said a fully-expandedprogram for girls would be maintained on a year-around basis. In the past, they have participated only in softball in the summer, but volleyball will now occupy the fall season, basketball thewinter and softball the spring and summer seasons. It will be the first time Kids. Inc. has sponsored girls basketball.AWARDS NIGHTMcCollum reports that awards night is definitely set for Mondav, Aug. 29. Announcement of winners of sportsmanship trophies may be made in the next day or two. Five city softball teams will get the sportsmanship awards. A master of ceremonies is vet to be ! chosen. The awards will be made between the doubleheader games ar fte’d Snx Park.
