The League Season isonFittingly Wound Up. quGrandview Outplays the Plains Aggregation, and for Second Time Win Last Year’s Medals. .iarGiTuesday afternoon saw the windup of the Northern Manitoba League games for this season, when the Gilbert Plains nine, flushed with their victory over the league leaders the day previous, essayed to duplicate the stunt. The weather was somewhat chilly, and the Grandview out field suffered therefrom, as each missed a pretty chance at critical moments. I p to the end ot the fifth innings both team, put up a gilt-edge sample of ball, and the pitchers were on their mettle, eight of the Plains and five of the Grandview teams respectively being unable to connect with the sinuous shoots as they cut the plate. At the end of the seventh it looked as though the Plains boys would h ive to be satisfied with a single counter as against the five notched up against them. But in the eighth and ninth they played with a desperation whit h, with the help of several errors by I Grandview, came nearly spelling success. In the ninth, alter the 1 first two men up had been retired at 1 the initial sack, Greenway and Martin * got base, on singles, and completed 1 the circuit on a passed ball. Jaek Cory was at bat, with two strikes and three balls to his credit when thi occurred, and things did not look any too rosy for the homers. But the big shortstop was evidently a wee bit too anxious, and he didn't get I Roy’s slant just right, was thrown out at first, the game was over, and , with victory secminglv so near the1 I m ■ 1 I__________ T1____G(IGPlains were beaten by one run. I here was not a run earned during the-3 whole game, and for on e there was ’ no wrangling, th • decision , of Tmpire ^ Pete Bowen being seemingly very satisfactory. In the seventh innings ° FitzGerald was put out wrongfully at c home plate, when his run should . have scored, a the ball was blocked and thrown to the catcher by an out-j sider.
