The Canadian Amateur Softball Association has adopted a 35-game schedule for the 1973 edition of the men’s Canadian softball championships at the Hull Arena park. Aug. 26-Sept. 1in Hull. Que.(lames’ controller Gilles “Champ” Champagne, better known for his musical prowess on such television production as the Galloping Gourmet ”, drafted the schedule which involves teams from Ontario. Yukon. Hull (host team), New Brunswick, Alberta, and Newfoundland in the “red division and Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Quebec, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, North West Territories and Saskatchewan inthe green division.Ordinarily the national championship would have been a12-team affair but Hull, the host club, failed to win its own league title and the right to represent Quebec in the finals. TTiat distinction fell to Touraine Thom Construction of the Ottawa-Hull Metropolitan Fastball League. As host community, however, Hull is entitled to field a team in the competition.The schedule’s been divided into 13different sessions with the first 10 sessions involving three games each. He ordered five passes.Tom Kinsman has been appointed to the position nf technical co-ordinator for the Canadian Gymnastics Federation and will assume his duties in the Administrative Centre for Sport and Recreation setup in Vanier immediately.Kinsman, from Peterborough, Ont., is a York University graduate where he has been actively involved in competitive and administrative gymnastics programs for the past fiveyears. .The 26-year-old appointee holds a BA in physical educationand MAin business administrat -m. He’s competed for Canada at the Student World Game orino, Italy (1966) and recently competed in the Yugoo. .vian tour.Kinmans appointment is a continuation of the five-year development program now being carried out by the men and womentechnical and executive committees of the CGF.His duties will centre on the development of better technical gymnastics programs, and to assist in development of gymnastics for national and international teams.Several months ago Health and Welfare Minister Marc I^alonde announced in a Lethbridge, Alta., speech that his ministry would appoint as assistant deputy minister of fitness and amateur sport. Effective Sept. 1, that role will be filled byRobert Giroux. 34, of Ottawa.A native of Rockland, Ont., Giroux currently is director, central region of the department of Regional Economic Expansion (DREE). A professional civil servant, Giroux began his governmental career in 1961 and has served with the Professional Institute of the public service and was assistant director of research for the Public Service Alliance for four years. His experience has included special assignments related to personnel management including appointment asdirector of personnel for DREE.The Giroux appointment was announced by the PublicService Commission.
