They are in their third year of operation, having joined the CFL as a member of the Central Division in 1968. The Caps wound up their first year as CentralDivision champs with an 8-4record, losing to the Orlando Panthers in a semi-final playoff game.In 1MB, Indianapolis again won Central Division honors with another 8-4 mark. In semi-final playoff action, they reversed the decision on the Panthers, beating them 17-7 to reach the finals. In the title game, Indianapolis took on the San Antonio Tbros and defeated them 44 to a in overtime to capture the CFL championship. Thus, going into Saturday’s contest, the Capitols have won two divisional titles and (me league title, as have the Hartford Knights. Hartford area football fans will have an opportunityto see two teams with records that are outstanding. In games of all types, the Caps’ overall record stands at 21-11, as compared to the Knights’ two-year record of 28-5. Saturday’s game marks the first this year for Indianapolis. For their new challenge in the ACFL the Caps have a new head coach in the person of Babe Dimancfaeff, the former Purdue All-American who enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an NFL halfback. For their first game, Dimancheff most likely will be counting on veterans to get the job done. The quarterback post will probably be filled by veteran JakeJacobs, a 6’1”, 205 pounder fromArizona State. Battling Jacobs for the QB job is rookie Jim Ettinger from Kansas State.Dhnancheff will also be relying on halfback A1 Moore, in Ms third year with the Caps.
