The National Open golf tournament will be played this week on the course of the Midlothian Country club of Chicago. Contrary to expectations, the European countries will not be represented but all the celebrities of the United States will be there.These celebrities, and others, began the festivities last week by playing a two day Invitation tournament on the course of the Glen Oak Country club. Players took part in the affair more for practice than for the real results which were at stake. A number of the great or near great players were not at Glen Oak.Among tho players who will play this week on the Midlothian course are Chic Evans, the Western Open champion; Francis Oulznet# the National Open champion, who will defend his title; Donald Edwards, Kenneth Edwards, Freddie McLeod. Charlie Hall, Alec and MacDonald Smith, Andy Bpringhven, one of the leading professionals of Pennsylvania; Warren Wood, former western amateur champion, and scores of others.Golf critics have attempted to pick the winner of these national events but have not united on any one person. All admit that Chic Evans. Western Open champion and an amateur, has a good Chance. MacDonald Smith, professional of Pittsburg, Is picked as the best of!
