Miss Miller was denied a shot at umpiring in organized baseball.Indianapolis ClownsFace Stars FridayThe world-famous comedy baseball team, the Indianapolis Clowns, will face a group of area collegians at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Carroll Stadium.The Clowns, the Negro World Baseball Champions, now integrated, have been crowd-pleasers for 42 years under owner and founder Ed Hamman.The Clowns are led by 31-inch midget Dero Austin, left handed stringbean pitcher Bobo Small and Nancy Miller, former Chicago model turned umpire.Austin has entertained fans across the nation and in Canada, Mexico, Cuba, and Puerto Rico as star of the team’s hilarious shadowball routine. He is also the main attraction during the Clowns’ rock ’n roll act — appropriately dubbed The Thing.” Austin’s other duties include being the team’s business manager.Small, with a great fast ball and a sure sense of humor, isone of baseball’s all-time comedians and versatile stars. He has played all nine positions in many contests, but is best when it comes to the crowd-pleasing, showboating style ofplay.1Miss Miller, who attends college, was denied a shot at umpiring in organized baseball. The Chicago girl will be attired in a blue uniform designed exclusively for her.The College All-Stars will consist mostly of former Kuemper and Carroll High School players. Former Knight players that will play include Ron Friedman,Jim Nurse, Dan Schmitz, Jerry Hermsen, Jim Middendorf, and Rick Keat. Former Tigers in the game will be Bruce Pettit and Steve Brechler, Lou Galetich will manage the squad.Tickets can be purchased at Eddie Quinn’s for $1.50 for adults and 50 cents for children. Tickets at the gate will be $2.00 tor adults and $1.00 tor children.
