Aylwards car is an updated version of the same car in which Denver lawyer Bud Morley won last years Afton race, a Chevrolet powered McLaren-Elva.Aylward finished second in last years race. Since an initial race in November in which he finished second with his new car, Ayl • ward has been unbeaten in National competition and has set new lap records at every race he has attended.Aylward 'credits this success to his mechanic Ernie McCoy of Arkansas City. McCoy is primarily noted for his success in building dirt track cars and has had many winners locally and at the National Jalopv races at Hutchinson. Forrest Coleman is McCoy’s driver in these Jalopy races.More recently, McCoy has become active in road racing preparing cars for such races as Nassau, Daytona, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin and many others.McCoy strips Aylwards car to the frame after each race checking for any mechanical defect. The engine in Aylwards car is a350 cubic inch Chevrolet producing nearly 5lt;X) H. P. Aylward estimates top speed on the Aftonstraight-away at 175 m.p.h. The tires on the McLaren are 12 inches wide and contribute greatly to the car's stability and acceleration.The Wichita Jaycee’s are expecting 140 entries in this years race. Racing will begin Saturday with practice and qualifying sessions beginning at 9 a.m. and preliminary races beginning at 1 p.m. Six feature races for all clasf.es of cars will be held on Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m.—
