TRY OUT FOR WORLD MEET — Mrs. Ingrid Schweers McManus, left, and Delberta Kay Fowler will be competing in tryouts on Sept. 4 for the world skating championships in Es-sen, Germany, Oct. 5 throuah 15. The event was a best-of-three series, but the third game was unnecessary as the AC’s pounded out25 hits in the two games.Summitville got 14 hits in the First game, Massie and Carpenter leading the way with home runs. Jim Vrooman was the winning pitcher.The 11 AC hits in the second contest included a home run by I!huck Woodruff and two doub-es by Mike Welborn. Brad ifeagy hurled the win.Summitville plays in the .emistate tourney at Muncie's leekin Park beginning Thurs-lay at 9 p.m. The loser plays it 7:30 the following night and he winner at 9 o’clock.Summitville’s AC’s also are ntercd In the Markle tourney, •laying at 9 p.m. Wednesday,mg. 24. jFor World Meet BerthsTwo area skaters will be competing in tryouts for the world roller skating championships soon as a result of high ratings in the recent national meet.One, a local girl, is Delberta (Bertie Kay) Fowler, of 2507 East 9th St. The 16-year-old lass has distinguished herself several times in the past few years and recently advanced to the senior ladies division as a result of her silver medal in intermediate ladies competition for the second straight year.The other, who hopes to return to her native Germany to compete against her former countrymen, is Mrs. IngridSchweers McManus of Marion.Booth she and Miss Fowler skate out of Idlewild Roller Rink in Marion.the senior ladies freestyle events »for two years and also participates in senior ladies pairs. She is a holder of the gold bar in both the United States and Germany, which is the highestaward given for proficiency in figure skating, ranking her as one of the best in the United States at the present time.Delberta. or “Bertie Kay’’, won silver medals in 1965 at North Long Beach, Calif., and in 1966 at Levittown to become i the first Indiana girl to move up to the senior division via the placement rule. Miss Fowler missed a gold medal by one-tenth of a point this year but has won four straight Indiana goldmedals.Mrs. McManus, who has been in this country four and a half years, is the Indiana Senior Ladies gold medalist and won a bronze medal in the Levittown meet in July.
