She broke into organized baseball 2 years ago.Jackie pitched for the Chattanooga Club against the New York Yankees and was successful in striking out both Babe. Ruth and Lou Gehrig, also many other good hitters at different times. She has pitched in the Mid-Atlantic and Piedmont Leagues. And as Chattanooga is ■ a farm for the Washington Senators, she hopes to some day wear a Washington uniform. The Chattanooga Club •has refused offers to sell or trade her, and her ambition is to pitch in a World Series. She first became interested in baseball when a small child and lived in adjoining apartments to Dazzy Vance speed ball king of the National League. Vance who at that time was pitching for the Memphis Chicks took a great interest in little Jackie and taught iier many things about throwing a baseball. He told her that she would he a greaf pitcher some day, and her childish faith in this remark has probably been the greatest factor -in her climb to fame in the national pastime. Her skill with a baseball was not a gift. Her.success was attained through hard work, and months and months, even years, of constant practice, many times in the broiling hot sun, clad in a regulation uniform. She would toil for hours at R time to gain control and master the many curve balls for which she is now so famous. She has plenty of nerve when in the box. She can give it and take, like any professional ball player. She will ask no favors nor give any.Miss Mitchell is a'graduate of the Edgmont school for girls. She is the daughter Of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Mitchell of Cattanooga, and one of her parents is always her .constant companion on all her trips. Promoters have offered many- different propositions, but she has turned them all down, to continue to pitch fcasehall.- She receives hundreds or fan letters, and tries to answer them all her self.
