Monarchs PlayDavicta Monday 1Famous Kansas City Colored Team Faces Bearded Rivals At Soden’s Park,THEIR FIRST MEETINGGrpver Cleveland Alexander To Appear With House of Davids In Feature Attraction.The top spot of Emporia’s baseball season will be reached next Monday afternoon at Soden's park when the Kansas City Monarchs, popular colored club, crosses bats with Grover Cleveland Alexander’s bearded House of Davids, The game will be played at 5 o'clock and will be offered at the popular admission price of 40 cents.These two teams are regarded as the, leading traveling clubs on the road th's year and Emporia is exceptional fortunate in securing them for a game here. So far they have not met each other and both Wichita and Kansas City sought the battle. Rival • publicity departments are locking horns over the issue and the following letter was received yesterday by the Wichita Eagle from J. L. Wilkinson, owner of the Monarchs:“I understand that the House ofDavids will play in Wichita in thenear future. This is the same clubthat has been misrepresenting their publicity by stating that they have a superior club to the Monarchs.Last year, you will recall, the House of Davids wanted to be booked in both Kansas City and Wichita but when we put out a challenge they canceled both gamesThe House of David team does not Want to spoil its record for the season and meets only independentclubs. We're ready to take them on any lime because we want to stop % lot- of misleading propaganda which has come from their publicity department.“We defeated two more Western league clubs last week. Des Moines and Omaha, both by lop-sided scores and we have our greatest ball club in history.”.Many Emporia favorites are in- • eluded in the Monarch lineup. Among them are ‘‘Bullet Joe” Ro-gmn, manager; Newt Alien. Mothel, Young. Joseph, Bell.
