.PRINCE of WALES'S BIRTH-DAY.Brighton.The Ball .and Supper were given at the Castle Tavern, by the Dukes of York and Clarence; and the cards of invitation extend-ing to Lewes, as well as the immediate neighbourhood ■— The Assembly was numerous andhighly genteel.A very military and striking procession was presented by the Javelin Men, headed by Sir Ferdinando Poole, the Sheriff.This Order, which smacks ?o truly of feudal times, consists of the chief tradesmen of Lewes, from whence they proceeded to pay their respeds to the Prince:—Their uniform is a superfineBlue Coat, Buff Waistcoat, and Buckskin Breeches,with other appendages, the effeft of which wasstriking. lt;tTheir swords were sustained by blue belts overthe shoulder, with crested plates.' Their horses’ had Blue and girths, and ItfeaSt plates ; and the heacbdresses of the horseswere also of corresponding decoration.- The Trumpeters which preceded the procession, were' dressed at' the expence of Sir F. Poole ; their-boats were huff, with blue collars and cuffs, and waistcoats. They had silk banners to their trumpets, with Heraldic bearings.The ordering-of this procession depehded in a considerable -degree on Colonel Pelham.• Upwards of 500 people dined at the.Castle;and an Ox was roasted’and distributed to thepopulace, with plenteous supplies of strong beer. - , , jA very brilliant Firework was played off, and a general Illumination exhibited. Brighton never was so joyous or gay before ; and to add to the general diversions, there was a Jack-Ass race, and several Wenches ran for Holland Smocks,Hats, and Caps;
