BRIGHTON,Wednefday, 3 o'Clock, P. M.This joyful morn was announced by the ringm? of the bells, in compliment to bis Royal Riglmels the Prince of Wales’s Birth-day, to whom every demonftvation of fincere attachment, duty, and loyalty waS afterwards fliewn by all ranks of per-fons of both’fexes.On the turf, beautifully fiirrounded by the Downs, about half a mile from the town, were difplayed feats of aivlty by the cricket players'-of Brichton, on the one fide, and eleven fcleerf from the adjoining pariflfos, on die other.♦An ox was roafted whole, and afterwards dif-tributed among the multitude with leverai cafks of beer.About noon, the Corporation of Lewes in grand cavalcade, headed by Sir F. Poole, and Col. Pelham, preceded by trumpets, entered thexown, drefledia.a-bxue and buff uniform, a?d cockades, of the fame colour, and immediately paid their refpecfs to his Royal Highnefs, by whom, it istneeeUefs to add, they were moilgra-cioufiy received.About four o’clock his. Royal Higbuefs the Prince of -Wales,-the Dukes of York and Clarence, and feveral of the Nobility, were on the fpot intended ifor the fcene of fports, feiti-vity and mirth..was announced by heartfelt acclamations, and every demonilration of joy. Seve-ral fporrs immediately followed.—Als races, fortwo prizes, aiacklle and a bridle each—men jumping in facks—women running for gowns, c.kmanly, the mod elegant attmfe* ment in which fuch (kill and dexterity were ma-mfeited as are feldom witncfled, was a fencingfcene between, rhe celebrated Chevalier Da Sx* George, and other adepts in that fcience. Ti)e conteft was^ exceedingly interefting, and terminated, as might be expeed, to the honour of M. De St. George; to whom his Royal High-I nefe made a prefent, in token of his approbation,of a moft elegant fword, adorned with a knot of blue and buff ribbons.The whole turf was covered with innumerable . multitudes, a great number of whom wore cockades of the above colours.A tent was pitched for the reception of his • Royal Higbnefs, his company and fuite ; another for the Corporation of Lewes, and feveral others for private parties. Beauty, elegance, and every thing which could make a fpeator endued with the leaft fenfibility, completely happy, were here abundant*The Heavens fimled on the fcene ; a more beautiful day cfould not have been wiihed for: the heat was not . exceffive, and was, belides, tempered by fine cooling breezes.A failing match is the next object of attention, for which a great many boats are entered. The waves are juft dimpled, and the breeze juft fuffi-cient to make the whole a delightful fcene.The fhore is already lined with multitudes; fuch an affemblage of lovely-females were never feei* here before ;—if not here, where could it be expected }The coup (Totil on the turf this morning, was delightful; here it is enchanting.
