Shewbridge FipldIs Site lor City/lt; VSoftball TourneyWlFinals in Men’s and Worn-en’s Divisions Will Be Played August 24*The best softball learns in Chicago’s metropolis will gather at Shewbridge field, 74th and Aberdeen sts., Monday night to open a week’s play in the Metropolitan Chicago Amateur Softball association’s double-elimination tourna-ftment. The winners of the tourney girls and mens teams, will represent Chicago in the world championship tournament in Detroit in I September.Preliminary round games willbe played Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights. Quarter-finals will be staged on Friday, August 22, the semi-finals are slated for Saturday, August 23, and the champions of both divisions will be decided with the finals on Sunday night, August 24. All contests will be seven innings with the first game starting each night at 8:30 o’clock.Brewers Entered.Competing in the girls division will be the Garden City Brewers, who have won the Chicago Girls Major league championship two straight years, the Rival Dog Food girls, defending metropolitan champions, the Rockola Music Girls, Winkler Motors, Parichy Bloomer girls and the Down Drafts.The two strongest contenders for the girls title are the Brewers, and the Rockola Music ;girls, both teams boasting the best pitchers and all-around teams. The Brewers’ three mound aces, Carolyn Ollrich, Marge Stefani arx,d Catherine Fellmeth, have recorded 56 victories in 78 starts, while Rene Sweet, Tommy Castator, and Lonnie 'Stark hurled the Music girls to second place in the Chicago Girls Major league.Men’s Teams.Seven of the 10 men’s teams in the tourney have already qualified including Park Ridge, defending metropolitan champions, Match Corporation of America, and Mejs-ter Brau, all of the West side; American Steel and Wire company, and Rheingold Beer, both of Waukegan, 111., and the Great Lakes Naval Training station, and Ft. Sheridan.
