Joe Percente HereSpeaking before a congregation made up mostly of men and boys, Joe Percente, formerly known to the underworld as “Chicago Joe” because of his illicit connections with big time rum-running, gambling and saloon keeping, brought a message to a packed house at East , Baptist church Sunday morning on honesty. Mr. Percente advised the young men and women of the audience to go straight, that crime ' does not pay, that it never pays.He told his listeners, who gave him their undivided attention, that there is no happiness in wickedness, hut only unsatisfaction and disappointment, and that the true joy of life lies in security with God. Mr. Percente has seen both sides of life, having once been worth approximately half a million dollars, all earned dishonestly, and then, after his conversion he voluntarily reduced himself to a process of living from hand to mouth as best he could on the highways of the country, bringing his testimonial to thousands.Joe believes in the old time religion and the shouting from the lamen corner.Joe Percente is now t»T years old, and looks less than fifty. He has been preaching the gospel for the past eight years. He is a forceful speaker and an interesting one.
