There was au unusually large crowd of colored people in town Saturday, ’he occassion being a match game nf base ball between the Pikeville Dand Black Creek colored teams.Mrs. A. S. Smith returned home Wednesday from a visit to her parents near Eureka.Miss Effie Blow returned home Sunday from a short visit to friends in the Pinkney section.There was quite a crowd of colored people at the depot htrs Saturday n’ght when the shoo-fly* ran up, and just as the train started to leave some unknown person threw a brick from one of the cars and struck John Sears colored, on the head, inflicting a painful wound. It is supposed that the brick was thrown by a member of the Black Creek base ball club who had been into a dispute with Sears shortly before the train left.J. P. H. Pikeville, N. C., Aug. 10.
