Los Alamos High School this year will have a new football coach, Dale A. Per-ini, and a great many new boys out for football when practice begins next Thursday.Perini, who moved here from Boulder, Colo., to replace Tommy Hightower, expects some 80 to 85 athletes to take their physicals this Saturday and draw their uniforms next Wednesday.The Toppers open againstValley High Sept. 3 in Albuquerque.Last year’s Hightower -coached Hilltoppers posted a 7-2-1 record, losing to St. Mike’s and Raton. Nineteen lettermen from this squad will be lost to Perini while 17 lettermen will return.A University of Oklahoma graduate, Perini will re -tain two of last year’s coaching staff, Jay Barry, a two-year veteran of the coachingfstaff, and Line Coach Glen Howl, who will begin his second year.The junior varsity coach, Dave Agard, will be a newcomer.Perini expects to install a winged-T offense and plans to utilize a small number of plays that he hopes the boys will learn well.On defense, the new coach will use the Oklahoma 5-4-2 with an inverted box secondary.The returnin^itfttermenwill include: quarterbacksBob Russo and Manny JtivesS;halfbacks Glenn Breisch, Steve Williams; centers TedEmigh, Robert Jones andBrian Seegmiller; guards Windy Williams and Blair Jones ; tackles Larry Holmes; Bruce Kerr andJohn Starner, and fullback Bruce Johnson.Some fine football players, including Allstate Tackle Rick Dvorak and offensive standout Jim Thomas, werelost by the Toppers and will be hard for Perini toreplace.Ttatdby August II, 1966 Fogs 3AThe ten game schedulepits the Toppers against three new opponents: West Mesa of Albuquerque, Taos and West Las Vegas.
