DONKEY BASEBALL COMING TOHUNTINGDONDonkey baseball one of the pepperiest pepper games ever put on and a brilliant array of baseball stars will be seen here on Monday. August 13, when the House of David baseball circus comes t.o Huntingdon to battle the All-Stars, .Two innings of the donkey game are played to start oft the entertainment. Then comes the regular nine inning base-ball game and during the course of a game the House of David, stars put on a pepper game which has had no equal in the history of baseball.Manager Ray L. Doan has assembled together this year one of the classiest clubs ever to represent the colony at Benton Harbor. For the past several years the players have been reporting to Manager Doan at his home in Muscatine, la., and this season natives of that city were free with their praise for Doan's 1934 outfit.In addition, the House of David baseball club carries its own $30,000 portable light plant for night baseball. The plant is the largest of its kind in the world today and has lighted all the large baseball parks in the country, such as Forbes field at Pittsburgh; Sportsman’s park at St. Louis; Braves field at Boston and others.The House of David club last year defeated such teams as the St, Louis Cardinals of the National league, S-to-6, the St. Paul American Association team, 7-to-2 in fact the team won 75 per cent of its games all over the country against the strongest competition available.Earl “Oil” Smith, formerly with the New York Giants, has a. reputation as a fighter and he still is one of the greatest catchers in professional baseball. Earl, too. has not forgotten the tricks of the trade and his generalship on the field is of priceless value to the House of David team.Backing up this great battery Is a team which include* the flashiest stars out of the majors. In fact many of the players on the visiting club compare favorably and in some degree surpass tbeir major league brothers. Many of them have reasons why they refuse to go up, why they have refused offers to join National or American league teams.Infield Is GroatSome of th# greatest of these player* are Blakeney at shortstop, considered one of the speediest players in organised baseball. He does things with a ball which bewilders the patrons. Then there is Conley at third, and Williams *t secdnd, both stars of the first water. Bosse is the 1934 first baseman and he leaves Manager Ray L. Doan nothing to ba desired, This quartet rounds out the infield.Then in the outfield are found Waytula, Jacobs and Mac-Dovignl, a truly great trio of stars who make it difficult for opposing hitlers to ‘‘lilL them where they ain’t.”The House of David team presents a unique attraction, oue which Manager Doan believes is unequalled today.
