Writing conference setA writing conference--especially designed for new and beginning writers-will be held in Grande Prairie, August 18 and 19.Sponsored by the Alberta Division, Cultural Development Branch, Department of Culture, Youth and Recreation, the two-day Conference is open to any Alberta resident but is especially intended to encourage writing talent in Alberta’s colorful northcountry.Sessions will be held at the Grande Prairie Motor Inn and a banquet will wind up the Conference.In^ructor§ are some of the best-known names in Alberta letters, amohg them Dr. W. G. Hardy, former Dean of Classics, University of Alberta, and now president of the Alberta Division, Canadian Authors Association; and John Patrick Gillese, a successful freelance writer for 30 years, now-first head of the Government of Alberta’s Creative Writing Division. Others includeDelbert A. Young, novelist; Dr. J. W. Chalmers, who will instruct on poetry ; Dorothy P. Barnhouse, a successful writer of juveniles; Mary E. Dawe, editor of the Canadian Author and Bookman; and Margaret Coleman Johnson, supervisor of Creative Writing Workshops for the Province.Atwo-day Conferenceof this sort will advance a writer farther than possibly five years of ‘going it alone.’ The Conference is for beginning writers in particular, with the best and most sympathetic of instructors to guide them.Fee for the two-day Conference is $8.00, payable to the Provincial Treasurer.
