Hungry Nine Defeats Whitemoulh In South Division Play OffsThe Hungry Nine FastballClub of River Hills captured the championship of the south division of the Eastern ManitobaFastball League on Sunday.Aug. 7. when they defeatedWhitemouth 3 to 2 in a thrill packed game that went 10 innings. The game was a pitchers’ duel all the way as Rob Honke for Hungry Nine and Rudy Noelbering 18 guests. Mrs. Sawchyn gave a sigh of relief when they brought out the ready prepared hampers of picnic dainties.H H KMr. and Mrs. Pete Pasaluko are spending their vacation in Chicago and Detroit.HIt ttMiss Margaret Sargent visited with Mr. and Mrs. C. Kuryk and Martha were weekend visitors of Mr. and Mrs. A1 Iwanick.The Egg and ITwo eggs were brought into the Leader office the other day by a Fred Grabke of River Hills who staled that they were both laid by his flock of chickens on the same day. The peculiarity of these two eggs was that one was about three inches long while the other a small dwarf beside the large one. only three-quarters of an inch long.for Whitemouth matched pitch for pitch.The score remained at one all until the 8th inning when Barry Paulsen put Whitemouth ahead with a tnncly single, driving in a run. In the Hungry Nine half of the 8th. Bob Honke saved the day with a clutch hit single scoring a man from third base. There was no score in the fllh inning or in the Whitemoulh half of the 10th. however, in the last of the 10th. the Hunerv Nine engineered their dramatic finish With two out. Eric Rern-k i cached third base on a fly hall that the left fielder lost in the sun. Next man up was- Ernie Harris, who laid a perfect bunt down the third base line to squeezo# in the winning run, a dramatic ending to a well played game.Whitemouth was handicapped somewhat as John Paulson pulled a muscle in the early stages of the game and was refused pel -mission to have a replacement runner, if and when he happened to make a safe hit Winning pitcher was Bob Honke, who Pitched goon ball v-fh F-nie Harris doing the catching.
