Former Benedictinesoccer star diesmysteriouslyA former soccer standout from Benedictine College mysteriously died last week during a houseboat trip with a group of friends on Lake Mead in Nevada.The body of John Kenneth Bezdek, 23, of Lakewood, Colo., was pulled from the lake around 4 p.m., July 23. The cause of death had not been determined at that time. The events leading up to Bezdek’s death were being investigated by the National Park Service and the Clark County (Nevada) coroner’s office.Authorities were looking at the possibility alcohol was involved or if Bezdek was electrocuted by a mysterious underwater current. One of Bezdek’s friends told authorities the water in the area felt strange, but park rangers found no evidence of an electrical current.Bezdek attended Benedictine from 1992 to 1996 and was the school’s all-time leading soccer scorer while on the team and was selected to the N AIA All-American soccer team his junior and senior years.At the time of his death, Bezdek was working for John Hancock Financial Services in Denver and was a coach for the Club Columbine Soccer Club. He was also engaged to be married.
