Yes, sir, the bewhiskered baseball team from Benton Harbor, Mich., who play the grand old game of baseball under the floodlights. They played the Canton Pirates at the Winter Park baseball park in Ogdensburg instead of the localFairgrounds. Manager Williamstransferred the game to the Maple City park because of the poor attendance at the games played here previously lt;d not warrant attempting the game here. Over two thousand persons saw the battle. Chief Bender is not with the team at the present time because of an injury suffered three weeks ago at Mount Carmel, Pa. It is doubtful that he will ever play ball again because of a broken knee cap. Tough luck Chief, the ball fans certainly missed you.The invaders got off to an auspicious start in the first frame after the first man up had been attempting to steal second base.The second batter. Scott, not. SirrtWalter Scott, walked, advanced on Cross’ single into right field, and scored on LaFleur’s hojne run past Bear Jenkins. Holland doubled butfailed to score. They scored again in the second inning when the head of the batting order reached first on two errors .manipulated by Clic Bigwarfe and one by Bear Jenkins when he dropped a high fly in right field but only one run scored as Baker nailed the second runner at the plate with a perfect peg to Robertson wbo caught a whale of a game. In the third inning Fin ton hit a long triple to center territory j L1 and scored on Anderson’s Texasa.Leaguer back of secod. Walsh singled, sending Anderson to third from where he scored on Jacob’s line drive to center field. Scott got on on error by Kruckman, playing j short stop, and advanced on Cross’ hit to short left field, and scored when Pires misjudged a batted ball. Chief St. Dennis, giant Indian twir-ler from the river town, relieved Doc O’Reilly on the mound at the start of the fourth and held the invaders scoreless in .the fourth frame. In the fifth the David team scored five times on seven hits. After this Inning the visitors were held in check by St. Dennis, who allowed two hits during the last four innings.
