Seniors Ryan Mau, Lane Starbuck and Sean Stringer are vying to share the running back spot. North Pole uses a defense headed by returning middle line backers Mau and Russell Steinman. “I think we are as solid as we have been,” North Pole defensive coordinator Shayne O’Connor said. “Our starting linebackers are coming back and should be the core of our defense”’ Also returning on defense are Stringer on the line and Wiltie in the backfield. Welborn hopes the youthful Patriots can rely on each other for success. “Teamwork. This group of kids has bought into the program and is buying into each other and that is important,” Welborn said. “This group is dedicated to working together. “Working together is going to win them games and win them the opportunity to go to the championships,” he added.
