Brundage travels to Copenhagen next week. It will be a working vacation.Brundage was selected team physician for the United States rowing team which will compete in the 4th World Rowing Championships there Aug, 11-27. Assisting him as team trainer is Dr. Charles Eliopules, a physical therapist in charge of the physical therapy department at St. Joseph’s Hospital here.Brundage will be at his second rowing championship, having served as team physician last summer at St. Catherines, Ont., and the first time the championships had been held outside of Europe.The U.S. contingent to the meet will be made up of about 40 oarsmen, but just who will be on the squad won’t be determined until this weekend. The U.S. team is rowing at the Pan American games at Cali, Colombia, and isn’t due back until today. It willhave to compete with other oarsmen from around the country at the U.S. National Trials at Orchard Beach, N.Y.Brundage is not a newcomer to rowing circles. He serves as president of the Ohio Valley Rowing Club, one of only two in West Virginia. (The other is the Wheeling Rowing Association.)The club has made its facilities available for area high school teams to compete in interscholastic competition.One of those teams, Parkersburg High School, went through an undefeated season last spring and was credited with an unofficial American “first” when it went to St. Catherines to row against four Buffalo, N.Y. schools, the first time any high school in the country has competed in interscholastic competition outside the U.S.Brundage says the club currently is in a building period, sponsoring youth Corpsmen to compete for the U.S. championships for high school students.
