No. 60! Stuart Ties RuthFamous Mark: Chiefs WinBy DON BRYANT Staff Sports WriterDick Stuart Saturday night stepped into the magic circle reserved for baseball players who hit 60 home runs as the Chiefs bested Albuquerque, 6-4, at Sherman Field. And he did it by a scant few inches.No. 60—made famous by Babe Ruth in 1927—was posted by Stuart in the second inning and' it gave Lincoln a 1-1 tie.Ted Shandor was on the hill—-he went all the way for the losers —and the big Lincoln outfielder lofted a pitch high in the air.The ball floated to deep left and Outfielder Chuck Lundgren backtracked to the wall, looking for all the world like he was going to make the catch. The crowd of 2,001, accustomed as Lincoln fans are to seeing Stuart hit powerful line drives over the wall, held its collective breath, and groans were heard as Lundgren camped. But at the last instant, one of Sherman Field's tricky wind currents gave the ball a gentle nudge and it dropped softly behind the hairier as the Duke outfielder stood by helplessly. With the sudden roar of the fans ringing in his ears, Dick circled the bases, touched the plate and tipped his hat—it might have been a close squeak, but No. 60 was in the bag.But Lincoln's joy was shortlived. The Dukes, who had tallied in the first on a walk and Emil Syngel’s triple, got two quick tallies in the fourth and drove Don Rowe to the showers.Val Thomas opened the frame with a home run and Don Strichek moved around the sacks on a fielder's choice, an error and Shan-dor’s looping single.Don Williams was rushed to the mound and retired the side.Shandor kept the Chiefs in line until the sixth when consecutive doubles by Bill Jackson and Marcus Cobos, followed by Williams’ booming triple, put the home team in front to stay, 4-3.Ken Toothman’s walk and a double by Stuart made it 5-3 in the seventh and Jackson provided more insure in the eighth when heSmiiiaoJJaimml anir^farSection B—Lincoln 1, Neb. Jones couldn't recover from his crash, and Lincoln skipper Larry Shepard waved Jackson around as Duke Right-held Len Van De Hey chased the ball.Williams gave the Dukes only one hit until the ninth when three singles netted the visitors a run. Bill Nordberg came on to wrap things up and save Williams' ninth win.The same two teams meet in a day-night doubleheader Sunday. The afternoon game will start at 2:30 p.m..
