LionsCarnivalFridayWill Feature Ball GameMany Other AttractionsThe Lions Carnival to be held at the Bowmanville High School grounds commencing at 6.30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) has been advertised as “bigger and better than ever” by the Bowmanville Lions Club who are staging the event, and in view of the many outstanding attractions they have lined up this certainly does not seem to be an idle boast.The Carnival will get under way with an outstanding free softball game at 6.30 when the National Torches, one of the top teams of the Sunnyside Girls Fastball League in Toronto will clash with an All-Star men’s team from the Town Softball League here. The National Torches play a fast, thrilling brand of ball and the Sunnyside Girls League in Toronto regularly attracts bigger crowds than men’s leagues in the city. Teams from the league have often beaten male teams in other exhibition games and the All-Star team from the Town League will have to be on their toes Friday night or history may repeat itself.Opposing the TQrches will bethe following stars of the Town League: “Ace” Richards, Bob Gallagher, Harold Hammond, Paul Chant, Don Gilhooly, Lloyd Ayre and Ted Dadson. Lion Russ Oke is also lining up several other All-star players or this game.Free Attendance PrizesAt least seven prizes will be given away during the course of the evening, including amantel radio, two aluminum Jlawn chairs, two table lamps, and two valuable fibreglass fishing rods. The draw for the mantel radio will be made while the fastball- game is being played and others will be held regularly during the evening. The tickets for these attendance prizes are absolutely free and the only requirement is that the holder of the lucky ticket must be present on the grounds when it is drawn.Draw For Buick CarTickets will be sold on the grounds in two other draws. Prize in the grand draw is a beautiful tan 1954 Buick which will be sold for $1.00 to the holder of the lucky ticket. In addition, the seller of the win-jning ticket will receive a hand-I some 1954 Chevrolet. Should the winning ticket be sold on the grounds at the Carnival, however, the Lions will sell the Chevrolet and divide the proceeds evenly between the Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. and the Bowmanville Recreation Department.Many Games and BoothsAnother outstanding feature of the Lions Carnival will be the giving away of attendance orizes at intervals all during :he evening. Every person entering the High School grounds until the time the softbail game is over will be given a free ticket good on the attendance draws, but he must be present on the grounds at the time his ticket is drawn in order to win.The Bowmanville Lions will,as usual, have a large number of games and booths in operation on the grounds andltkere will be a merry-go-round for the children. Such popular games as bingo, crown-and-an-chor, over-and-under and many ! other pastimes will be open to j those wishing to try their luck.I Booths selling hoi dogs, soft i drinks and refreshments will be in operation.Proceeds from the carnival j will be used by the Bowmanville Lions Club in their many community service projects and to help maintain the Lions Community Centre.
