Avers Ave.It was the second best effort of the Summer League by the ace right-handedburler. Earlier in the summer he had handcuffed Glenbard North on a one-hitter. And it was the second no-hitter this year for the smooth slab performer. During the regular Catholic League campaign this spring he spun a no-hit performance against MendelNeedless to say, Shearer will be No, 1 in Weber’s scheme of things next spring. But Coach Camastro did use a lot of other hurlers in the summer league, including Mike Pudeia, Kjeran O’Sullivan, Chris Pacana, Frank Pavel and Dave Dyrek.But getting back to the league clincher against Sullivan, things didn’t look too good for the Horde during the first three innings of play. During the first three frames they were held- hit-They proceeded to score eight runs on four hits, the most productive of which was a bases-loaded triple by Jerry Lamaritia. Just to make sure there would be no doubt about the outcome the Horde added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth on three walks and hits by Rich Rotunno and Dave Dyrek. That ended the game on the 10-run rule.All in all it was a good summer for the Horde of Coach Camastro. In regular league play they won 15 games while losing oniy two. They also had one playoff win and one playoff loss.Cathastro used ail of his players extensively in theBy NAILS FLORIOHie third annual Public-Catholic league All-Star Football game, pitting the top graduated seniors of one league against the cream of the senior crop in the other circuit, will be held on Friday evening of this week in Hanson Stadium, Central and Fullerton, The kiekoff will be at 7:30 p.m.Tickets are $2 for adultsand $1 for students. Thereis no advance' ticket sale and tickets will be sold atHanson on the day of thegame. The box office will open at 5:30 p.m.The game this year is being sponsored for the first time by Chicago’s Department of Human Services. The players are graduated seniors who have been chosen as all-stars by the coaches of their respective leagues.Proceeds of the popular grid attraction, which is expected to draw some 10,000 fans, will be used to establish an ali-sports film library to provide game films of Chicago high school athletes for interested college recruiters. The game is also part of Mayor Bilandic’s Neighborhood Summer Program.The two squads have been working out since July 11. Coaches and officials have donated their services. Mike Schwager of De La Salie is head coach of the Catholic league and Pete Hester of Curie for the Public League. Jim Duffy of Weber is one of the assistant coaches of the Catholic League contingent.The Catholic League team, which includes on its roster eight members of the state champion St. Laurence squad, will go into the game as favorite and hopes to make it three out of three in this prep classic. However, Coach Hester of the city loop has what might be a speedier unit that will be headed by Chicago Vocational back Ron Pennick, the star in last year’s Prep Bowl game which found CVS gaining the crown for the PublicLeague for the first time wince 1959.Running with Pennick will be some other highly competent city circuit backs. They include Eric Tapley of Harper who gained enough yardage last year to be in the one mile cl1- Tsolevv v*• .aid well b*. me fastest member of the quick PublicLeague eleven.Nick Cavaligos of Curie was the team’s best back last year and is expected to go all out for Hester, his high school coach.Lane Tech, always a contender in the Public League, has five of its graduates on the all-star team. They are Calvin Bryant, Alexander Clark, Leonard Dickens, Oscar Long, Stanley Pajerski and Bon Renschke. Austin will be represented by Paul Hobbs and Eric Hunt and Schurzwill have as its lone representative Rafael Soto, 2814 N. Sacramento,Heading the list of luminaries on the Catholic team are aii-Catholic and all-sta-ters who this fall will start giving their al! at major universities. Illini bound gridders, who are hopeful of helping Gary Moeller restore grid power at the University of Illinois, are Rich Antonaeet of St. Laurence and Tom McAvoy of Gordon Tech. Antonacei is a 6-2%, 235 pound tackle who also holds the school’s shot put mark. McAvoy, a 6-4, 200 pound quarterback, was voted the most valuable piaver last year in the Catholic League. He connected on 67 out of 130 passes last season, good for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns.Catholic All-Star Tom Kingsbury of St. Rita, who is expected to show a lot Friday night, will be tried both on offense and defense in college at Purdue University. Another offensive halfback who is Purdue-bound and who will see action Friday for the Catholic AU-Star squad is Ben McCall of Mendel.Another all-stater from St. Laurence, and another threat to the Public Leaguers tomorrow night, is Dave Hickey, a halfback who is hopeful of giving John Pont some much needed help at Northwestern.Weber High School will have one representative on the Catholic team. He is Steve Kiervs, a defensive haifbaek. Fenwick will have three of its players on the all-star team. They are tight end Tom Nelson, guard Brian Schumann and offensive halfback Pete Magrini.The Catholic League won the first all-star game in 1975 by a 23 to 14 score. They won last year’s contest, 31 to 8.
