Captain Hanson, sports officer of the Manitoba District, says his days of galloping over gridirons in the livery of Winnipeg Blue Bombers are strictly over. Bad news to Canadian football fans, Hanson’s retirement ‘ will probably bring a profound sigh of relief from every football club except WinnipegThe speedy Blue Bomber star chalked up his greatest victory in December of 1937, when the Winnipeg team played Ottawa Roughriders in the Dominion’s capital. With a snowy, slippery turf, players donned tennis shoes for the game, but still the Roughriders couldn’t latch on to Mr. Hanson. It was chiefly due to his brilliant running that theFritz HansonBombers walked off with one of the most spectacular victories in the history of Crcy Cup competition.Looking to the future, Hanson figures that football is reaching the point where eastern and western factions are ready to get together and standardize rules all across Canada. He also looks for Canadian football to become more popular after all servicemen are back in civilian life. Regarding Hanson’s announced retirement, the sporting fraternity winks an eye and predicts that the blonde flash will be heaving the football around come fall just the same.
